Arctic Documentation - Upgrading Arctic 1.x to Arctic 2.y

The upgrade process runs in exactly the same way as the installation process. The setup system will guide you through the entire process and this section of the documentation will explain each option.

UNLESS you have modified any of the source files, this process should be fine for your upgrade. If you HAVE modified any of the PHP files within the application, then you should not follow this process and update files manually.

NOTE:
You can only upgrade from Arctic 1.1.4 to Arctic 2.0.
If you are running Arctic 1.1.2, you must first upgrade to Arctic 1.1.4 before upgrading to Arctic 2.0.

Downloading Arctic

You need to download the latest version of Arctic 2.y - go to the Customer System to access your license. When you are logged in, click on the Licenses option on the sub menu to list your licenses. Find your Arctic license and click View.

The download package is listed at the bottom of the page. Select Arctic files are encoded to prevent piracy.

To use the ionCube encoded files, you need to know whether the appropriate extensions are available on your server/hosting. The ionCube Loaders will be required. Even if your server does not have ionCube already installed on your server, the download zip file INCLUDES the free run-time loader files which SHOULD work in most cases.

Download Options

  • Zip Package (ionCube Encoded)
This package provides access to all the files and templates related to the product and the files which are protected are encoded using the ionCube Encoding system.

Uploading Arctic

Once you have downloaded the Arctic package, you need to upload the files to your web hosting account overwriting all existing files. NOTE: Do not overwrite your existing /includes/config.php file! Extract the downloaded archive to your local system and upload the directory using your favourite FTP client. Since some files are encoded, you should upload files in binary mode in your FTP client.

Web Based Setup Process

To access the web based setup, use your web browser to navigate to the location where you uploaded Arctic. For example, if your website address is http://www.example.com and you uploaded Arctic into the directory called bugs/, you would go to http://www.example.com/bugs. You will automatically be redirected to the setup system. You will be asked if you wish to do a fresh install or an upgrade - choose the upgrade option.

Step 1: License Agreement

Arctic is a commercial application and as such, you must agree to the license agreement before using the product. The agreement itself is revised and updated every so often and the latest version can always be found online. Please be sure that you have read it before choosing the I Agree option in the setup process.

Step 2: Pre-upgrade Summary

Before Arctic is actually upgraded, you will be provided with a summary so you can double check everything. When you are happy, click the Continue button to perform the upgrade.

Step 7: Installation Complete

If everything went fine, you will be told that setup was successful and that you now have to:

  • Delete the setup/ folder

as well as being provided with links to access your upgraded Arctic installation.
